Knee Replacement: how it works

  • Knee replacement surgery requires the resurfacing of the bony surfaces of the knee joint. It is not to remove the whole joint, but merely to resurface the diseased or traumatized bony edges.
  • An artificial knee joint is designed to fit over the edges of the joint and to replace the painful joint with one that can be used pain free.
  • Technical advances have given us new materials to replace your problem knee.We choose the best design for you after careful diagnosis of your particular problems, life style and age.

There are two types of knee prosthesis:

  • Cemented
  • Uncemented.

High density polyethylene "button" covers the underside of the knee cap.

Chromium cobalt covers the end of the thighbone.

High density polyethylene and titanium covers the end of the shin bone.
